Hyperemisis Gravidarum A woman who experiences severe vomiting and can't eat or drink suffers from hyperemesis gravidarum. She may be treated for several days in the hospital if she becomes dehydrated and loses weight. In the hospital, she is fed intravenously and can usually resume eating solid foods after a couple of days. Hypnosis is another treatment that is often successful.
Reglan (metocloprarnide), a new treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, works by suppressing your vomiting reflex. A catheter is inserted into your abdomen or thigh. It is attached to a very small pump, which pumps a steady dose of Reglan, so you can lead a normal life. It has been used during the 1st trimester with no harmful effects on the fetus.
