Pregnancy Problems and Warning Signs Some diagnoses, such as gestational diabetes and hypertension, are not unusual and cause little noticeable discomfort but are always serious. They must be treated for your health and that of your baby.
If you feel uncomfortable or have questions, don't be afraid to ask for help. Call your doctor to discuss your concerns. This book can help you formulate questions you may want to ask. Although you may believe it's easier to get advice or information from family members or friends, don't rely on them for medical advice. Your doctor has probably dealt with the same situation many times. The answers he or she gives you will be right for your particular pregnancy.
Pregnancy Warning Signs If you experience any of the following signs or symptoms, call your doctor immediately: • vaginal bleeding • severe swelling of the face or fingers • severe abdominal pain • loss of fluid from the vagina (usually a gushing of fluid but sometimes • a trickle or a continual wetness) • a big change in the movement of the baby or a lack of fetal movement • high fever-more than 1 Ol.6F (38.7C) • chills • severe vomiting or an inability to keep food or liquids down • blurred vision • painful urination • a headache that won't go away or a severe headache • an injury or accident that hurts you or gives you concern about the well-being of your pregnancy, such as a fall or an automobile accident
