Cat Seizures / Epilepsy.
Question: Our cat who is nearly 11 has started having strange turns; four over the past seven months but there could be other that we don't know about. For ten to 15 minutes he has poor or no co-ordination of his limbs. If he manages to walk he wobbles and he has dilated pupils. He looks drunk When we stroke him he put Both before and after this period he is fine.
He hates going to the vet - he panics and gets sweaty paws - so we would like to try to avoid this If possible. We think that It might be the early stages of epilepsy. an allergy reaction or an ear Infection. Last month he had his teeth cleaned and several removed. We know toxins on teeth can affect the liver could they be responsible?
Answer: It does sound as if your cat is having some kind of seizure or fit. There are several possible explanations but toxins from his teeth are unlikely to be the cause. Did you mention these episodes to your vet at that time and were any blood tests done prior to the anesthetic? Pre-anesthetic blood tests would show up any liver problems but would not necessarily show changes relating to some of the other possible causes of fits.
Epilepsy can occur in cats but it is rare and usually causes problems at a much younger age. Other possible causes include high blood pressure, heart disease, infections such as toxoplasmosis. FeLV or FIV low blood glucose, or brain tumor. source YourCat Mag
