How should we introduce a Kitten to a Rabbit?
Question. Can you advise me on the best way of introducing a new kitten to my household without causing distress to my rabbit? I have a female Dutch rabbit that lives permanently indoors in a cage. We plan to acquire a black and white kitten in a couple of weeks or so and we'd like him or her to become friends with our rabbit. What do you suggest?
Answer. Initially the kitten will be smaller than the rabbit, so as long as you make sure that it is not too playful with the rabbit and control the rabbit in case it decides to be rough with the kitten, then you should be able to get them together quite successfully.
Use cages to introduce them letting them sniff each other through the bars with one inside and one out and gradually oversee some interactions with them both free. While a rabbit would be potential prey for a fully grown cat, if you introduce them early enough while the kitten is still the smaller animal, then you should be OK.
If introduced early enough, kittens and rabbits can get on well. source Your Cat Mag.
