My daughter is allergic to dogs.

Question:
My five-year-old daughter would love to have a dog but we discovered she has is allergic to dogs after looking after a friend's pet. I have been told that some dog breeds are better for allergy sufferers - is this true?

Also, I have heard you can treat a dog with a lotion to prevent an allergic reaction the hair. Can you tell me more?

Answer. 

An allergic reaction to dogs is usually triggered by the saliva, dander (dead skin cells) or urine. By choosing a breed that is less prone to slobber and doesn't moult you can often reduce the reaction to an acceptable level.

In particular, Bichons Frise, Airedales and Poodles or Poodle-crosses are known to be less problematic to allergy sufferers but visit a breed show before getting a dog as individual sensitivity varies.

There are indeed some products on the market designed to minimize allergic reactions to pets.
