Am I wise to consider breeding terrier.Question:
My three-year-old terrier bitch Tinks wasn't socialized very well as a pup and is quite nervous of other dogs; in particular she doesn't like them sniffing her. I would like to breed from her and was wondering if this would hinder the process?
Answer:
Breeding a litter of puppies is a huge commitment and responsibility, both in terms of finance and time. You do not say what breed Tinks is, or whether she is Kennel Club registered, but the fact that she is a little nervous - albeit from a lack of early socialization - suggests to me that it would be unwise to breed from her. If you want a new puppy, I suggest you approach a reputable breeder for a youngster who will mix well with your existing bitch. However, you need to be sure that you do not introduce an overly dominant dog into the household as this may well make Tinks even more withdrawn. source Your Dog Mag.
