Could my chihuahua dog go blind?
Question. My chihuahua dog was diagnosed with uveitis about two years ago in the United States and I was given a prescription for eye drops called Econopred. So far I have not had to take him to the vet here in South Africa.
My concern is whether Econopred is the correct medication. Will my chihuahua dog go blind? Should I continue to give him the drops when his eye becomes inflamed? Is this a common condition and can it be cured, perhaps by changing his diet?
Answer. With any ongoing condition it's always a good idea to have a veterinary check at least twice yearly to monitor the chihuahua dog 's progress and check for any side effects of treatment. Econopred or another steroid is likely to still be appropriate for treating your Chihuahua's uveitis, but there are other medicines that could also be used. If the appropriate medication is not used then there is an increased risk of loss of vision following episodes of uveitis. I would therefore advise that you take your chihuahua dog to your new vet and get him checked out. Changes in diet are unlikely to make any difference to this condition. source Your Dog Mag.
