Is a Schnauzer dog suitable?

Question:
I have a 12-year-old Yorkie and I am thinking of getting another dog. I lost a male Yorkie, aged 16 years, eight months ago so my 12-year-old has always had a companion.

I would like a Miniature Schnauzer dog. Do you think the schnauzer breed is suitable and would getting a Schnauzer puppy be fair to my Yorkie?

Would a bitch or a dog be best?I have two children aged ten and five who are used to dogs but have never had a puppy.

It is surprising how the introduction of a new schnauzer dog puppy can give older dogs a new lease of life, and if you bring your schnauzer puppy up to respect its elders and betters, there's no reason why the two shouldn't get along famously.

As a breed, the Miniature Schnauzer has an excellent temperament and will enjoy the company of both the Yorkie and your children. However, it is important that young children are taught that puppies are not toys.

You may well be surprised at how well your Yorkie will respond to having a new young companion. I wish you all well.
