I'm worried about SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) affecting my dog.Question: I'm staying in Singapore, which was recently listed as being critically affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Many of the people here were worried about their dogs catching the virus, and I wondered if it could be possible? Answer: The severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak is now (hopefully) well and truly behind us, so our question is, to a certain extent, academic.
However, you may be interested to know that the type of virus which is thought to be responsible for SARS (a corona virus) is very 'host specific'. This means that the transmission of corona viruses between various species doesn't normally occur. These being the case, dogs in affected areas are not at risk of contracting such a disease. source Your Dog Mag.
